Robotic Surgery With Mako SmartRobotics™

Townsen Memorial Health System offers Mako SmartRobotics™ at both of our Houston-area hospitals. Mako is a robotic-arm assisted surgical system used in joint replacement and spine surgery. Your surgeon plans the procedure in advance using a scan of your own anatomy, then uses the system to carry out that plan during surgery. The robotic arm does not perform the surgery. Your surgeon remains in control throughout, using the system as a tool to guide their work.

Robotic Knee Replacement

Mako is used for total knee replacement and partial knee replacement.

Robotic Hip Replacement

Mako is used for total hip replacement.

Robotic Shoulder Replacement

Mako is used for total shoulder replacement.

Robotic Spine Surgery

Mako is used in spine procedures that involve placing screws or other hardware in the vertebrae, including spinal fusion.

Where Mako Is Available

Is Robotic Surgery Right for You?

Whether surgery is appropriate for you — and whether a robotic-assisted approach fits your procedure — is a decision made with your surgeon based on your individual condition. Talk to your physician about your options, or call us to learn more about the services available at our hospitals.

Individual results vary. Not all patients are candidates for joint replacement surgery or for robotic-assisted techniques. Talk with your surgeon to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you. Mako and SmartRobotics are trademarks of Stryker.
